Working principle of labyrinth seal of screw air compressor

Sep 25, 2021 Leave a message

The labyrinth seal has teeth and grooves arranged axially in the circumferential direction. These teeth can be on the inner circle of the stationary seal ring (called the stationary ring), or on the outer circle of the rotating shaft or the shaft sleeve tightly fitted on the rotating shaft (called the rotating type).

The teeth divide the pressure difference between the required seal and the leakage into a joint pressure unit from high to low, so as to reduce the leakage. The material of the tooth type seal can be aluminum, brass or other polymeric materials.

It is worth mentioning that the advantage of the rotary labyrinth seal is that it can use soft and vulnerable materials to do the sealing sleeve, so that the radial section can be very small, so that the leakage can be greatly reduced.
