Volumetric efficiency is the ratio of the actual gas volume of the compressor to the theoretical gas volume, expressed as a percentage.
Compression efficiency is the ratio of the actual power required to the theoretical power for compression of a given gas.The theoretical power can be calculated according to the isothermal condition or adiabatic condition. The corresponding compression efficiency can be determined and expressed as a percentage. In the case of a steam-driven or internal-combustion engine driven compressor, mechanical efficiency is the ratio of the indicated work of the compressor to the braking force on the shaft. In the case of a motor driven compressor, mechanical efficiency refers to the ratio of the indicated power in the compression cylinder to the shaft power of the compressor. This is expressed as a percentage.
