Within oil-injected screw compressors, the oil separator acts as the ultimate barrier. In the oil-air stream leaving the compression chamber, larger droplets can be removed mechanically, but submicron suspended oil mist must be captured by coalescing media. If this stage underperforms, oil mist escapes downstream, increasing lubricant usage, overloading after-treatment components, and lowering compressed air quality.
Rather than relying on a blockage alarm, the element is built to deliver consistent separation throughout its service life. A corrosion-resistant design, advanced welding, and a novel double-sided bonding agent provide high structural strength, allowing reliable operation at temperatures up to 120°C. As the oil-air mixture passes from the outer to the inner side of the separator, coalescence occurs: oil is recovered and clean air is produced. The element removes all solid particles larger than 3 μm from the compressor discharge, keeps oil carryover below 3 ppm, and reduces unnecessary lubricant loss.
