The working process of an oil filter can be summarized into two stages: "interception" and "protection."
Physical Interception: Lubricating oil containing impurities flows through the filter element under pressure. Larger particles are blocked by the fiber layer of the filter element, preventing them from entering the subsequent oil path. High-quality oil filters typically use a composite filter media of high-precision glass fiber and metal mesh, ensuring filtration accuracy while also enhancing structural strength.
Bypass Valve Protection Mechanism: To prevent oil path interruption and subsequent dry wear damage to the main unit due to complete filter element blockage, an internal "bypass valve" is usually installed in the oil filter. When the filter element experiences excessive resistance due to too many impurities, the bypass valve automatically opens, allowing some unfiltered oil to flow directly into the main unit, ensuring lubrication in emergency situations.
Critical Safety Precautions:
Do Not Use Beyond the Design Life: Oil filters exceeding their design life may have internal filter media that has carbonized, broken, or even become a new source of contamination.
Be Aware of Static Electricity Risks: For built-in oil filters, ensure a reliable conductive path between the metal parts and the equipment casing during installation to dissipate static electricity generated during operation and prevent fire or explosion accidents.
Do Not Clean and Reuse: Oil filters are disposable. Their filtration accuracy and efficiency will significantly decrease after reaching their service life and cannot be restored by cleaning; they must be replaced directly.
Pay Attention to Bypass Valve Settings: Some equipment's oil filters are not originally designed with a bypass valve. In such cases, it is strictly forbidden to use an oil filter with a bypass valve, otherwise the valve may open prematurely when the equipment requires protection, allowing impurities to directly enter the main unit.
